Look carefully! The trees are growing out of the ruin of a cottage. This is a scene that has endured with very little change over something like at least, the last forty years. Indeed, the rate of obvious change in the whole of the border countryside is so static that it almost goes without notice. Such a satisfying thing to know that something keeps its wonder.

We are a long way up the Ettrick Valley here away from Selkirk.

The whole area hosts many farms stretching all along the Ettrick Water. Quite often, high waters can cause something of a problem but as they recede, occasionally, fish can be found in pools along the banks.
